Scorpions ready for Hurricanes test
JAMAICA Scorpions Assistant Coach Nikita Miller says the players are eager to get their regional Super50 Cup campaign up and running against Leeward Islands Hurricanes in Zone B action at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Tuesday.
“The team is in a very good place. We had three really good, aggressive, energetic training sessions since we got here [on Thursday] and everyone is raring to go,” he told the Jamaica Observer on Monday.
The Hurricanes got off to a winning start on Saturday’s opening day when Keacy Carty’s century guided them to a three-wicket victory over West Indies Academy.
While noting the threat that the Hurricanes will bring, Miller, the former Jamaica left-arm spinner, noted that the Scorpions are anxious for a positive start in the four-team zone which also includes Barbados Pride.
“We know how important it is to start with a win because when you’re chasing the pack in a tournament it’s very difficult to catch up. We are aware of that and we are looking to start with a win in this game,” Miller, who is assistant to his former national teammate Andrew Richardson, said.
Zone A comprises defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Windward Islands Volcanoes and Combined Campuses and Colleges.
The top two teams from each zone will advance to the semi-finals.
Matches are scheduled to be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, and at Brian Lara Cricket Academy and Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
