Praises for Pastor Jumu Grant
Besides Caribbean roots, Pastor Jumu Grant and Mr Blaxx share a similar view when it comes to gospel music, which is that there should be no boundaries.
Grant, a singer, is from Trinidad and Tobago, while Mr Blaxx is from The Bahamas. They collaborate on All Praises Due, a blend of neo-soul and hip hop.
The two agreed to work together shortly after being introduced by Orlando Miller, who manages both of them. All Praises Due is produced by Minister Solomon Bill of the Empowerment Recording Studios in Edmonton, Canada.
“We share a very similar approach to the gospel, first of all. Our genres of choice when it comes to worship, are mostly reggae-gospel, soca-gospel, rap/hip hop gospel, and contemporary gospel,” said Grant, who lives in Edmonton, Canada.
From the village of New Grant in southern Trinidad and Tobago, he grew up in a devout Christian home. His music was not limited to gospel as he listened to calypsonians like David Rudder and Black Stalin as well as Boyz II Men and Beres Hammond.
Grant began recording songs two years ago, with his first released single being JOY.
Mr Blaxx is from Nassau and has made a name in his country with inspirational songs, including The Dedication and Family Man.
