ENGINEERING, construction and project management company M&M Jamaica Limited has announced its $12.2-million scholarship programme for the 2024/2025 academic year.

In a recent release the company said the initiative underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting talented students pursuing higher education at The University of the West Indies (UWI) and University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).

Since its inception in 2009 the scholarship programme has provided vital financial assistance annually to bright and promising students from challenging backgrounds.

The scholarships are open to students studying in fields such as engineering or building construction. In a bid to foster a diverse workforce the programme also considers promising students in other disciplines, the release said.

Managing Director Richard Mullings highlighted the company’s dedication to expanding access and opportunity, particularly for students who are the first in their families to attend university and who come from low-to-middle-income communities.

“Our goal is to bridge the educational and opportunity gaps within our society,” Mullings stated. “We are committed to supporting bright young minds who have the potential to become future leaders in their respective fields.”

The scholarship programme is designed to benefit students from selected communities such as Amity Hall (St Catherine), Brompton and Essex Valley (St Elizabeth), Montego Bay (St James), Llandilo (Westmoreland), western Kingston, as well as students from St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

Don Mullings, chairman of M&M Jamaica, emphasised the company’s belief in nurturing talent for a brighter future.

“Through scholarships many of us have been able to follow our dreams and passion; the least we should do is extend a hand to our young people so that they, too, will be able to follow their dreams.

“I believe that we have everything to gain by investing in our most treasured asset, our young people,” he said. “Our support helps alleviate the financial burden of education and paves the way for future leaders in our industry.”

According to the release, past scholarship recipients have expressed deep gratitude for the support they have received.

“I remain ever so grateful for M&M Jamaica’s contribution to my education. Their support has significantly alleviated the burden of student loans and contributed to my professional success,” one former scholar said.

Another recipient shared: “This scholarship has been a testament to God’s faithfulness and has eased the financial challenges associated with higher education.”

In addition to financial support, the M&M Jamaica scholarship programme includes a mentorship component. Awardees are paired with experienced professionals who provide guidance, support, and connections to potential internship and career opportunities.
