PNP’s Portmore parish proposal is unacceptable
Dear Editor,
I was shocked to hear one People’s National Party (PNP) councillor saying the people of Portmore want Lakes Pen, Garbally Drive, Lime Tree, and even Hill Run to be part of the Portmore parish.
It is the biggest nonsense I have heard in the debate. It would be better if he had included the Spanish Town Hospital and bus park.
I am not sure if the people he spoke with are members of the PNP caucus, but as a resident of the Portmore Pines Division for more that 20 years, there is no way that I could say yes to any of these areas being in my parish.
The PNP is holding on to a straw. Their opposition to parish status is the fear of losing the St Catherine Southern seat and leadership of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation. Pure politics.
Government must go ahead with the original proposal.
