Davis promises to address issues in Spring Garden, Tulloch Castle in St James
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Member of Parliament for St James Southern, Homer Davis says he will be making an all-out effort to engage all state and other agencies in order to address a number of infrastructural challenges being faced by residents of Tulloch Castle and Spring Garden in the constituency.
Addressing a community meeting on Sunday January 15, 2023, with residents of Tulloch Castle and Spring Garden, Davis who is also Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister said the concerns raised by the residents will be brought to a follow-up community meeting in the area to which representatives of several state and other agencies will be invited.
“At our next meeting we will be inviting representatives of the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPSCO), the National Water Commission (NWC), the police, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) among others, for us to have a discussion to understand the issues that are affecting the citizens and how they can be resolved,” Davis stated.
The minister said he will be making immediate representation to get repairs done to the water pump that serves the areas and will personally finance the purchasing of petrol to be used in the pump for the pumping of water to communities for the first week after the pump returns to service.
“I know that we all agree that water is life and having a reliable source of potable water is something that I am committed to making strong representation to ensure that the water pump is returned to service. Once that is done, I will personally finance the purchasing of petrol to be used to operate the pump for one week and this will ensure that during that time, all residents will have access to potable water,” Davis added.
He added that at the end of that one week, residents will be asked to contribute towards the cost of production and supply of water.
“The water is here but getting it to you the residents come at a cost…a cost to which you are being asked to make a contribution. Once the contributions are in, fuel will be purchased, and water will be pumped for your convenience,” Davis said.
Davis said a follow-up meeting to further ventilate the concerns and get the input of state and other agencies will be held in short order.
