Ex-Baby Motha heads to MoBay
FOLLOWING a solid Christmas run, Ex-Baby Motha heads west to Montego Bay for a February 19 show at the conference centre in St James.
The play, which stars Andrea “Delcita” Wright, did nine shows in December. It had stops in St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester and St Ann.
Wright told the Jamaica Observer that Ex-Baby Motha will break a long theatrical drought in Montego Bay.
“The Montegonians have not had a live play since the reopening of the theatre market (due to COVID-19). Therefore, the actors are eager to appease Montego Bay’s theatrical palate,” she said.
Wright also wrote and directed Ex-Baby Motha which opened last May. It looks at the psychological effect broken homes have on children.
After a break, Wright and her cast went on a rural schedule, she said was well-received.
“We did nine shows for the holiday season, which included five charities. We created history by performing in the country every weekday for the holiday week… Monday to Friday,” Wright disclosed.
Her castmates in Ex-Baby Motha are veteran Trudy Campbell; Kai-Alana O’Conner, a sixth-form student at York Castle High School; Calneth Reid; and Derricka Johnson, another newcomer.
A guidance counsellor by profession, Wright has played Delcita for over 30 years. She said the chemistry with younger cast members has improved since the play debuted.
“Awesome…very compatible and the group dynamics is natural, very fun and we thrive towards the common goal of entertaining and maximising the patrons’ ticket spend.”
On February 10, Ex-Baby Motha will play at Jonathan Grant High School as a charity for that institution.
