KINGSTON, Jamaica – Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah recorded her first win of the season in the women’s 60m in 7.15 seconds at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet at the National Stadium, while declaring that her aim this year is to win her first World Championship title.

“It’s the same goal even though I reset and rewind, it’s the same goal to try to get a World title, which I don’t have. It’s the same goal to just continue to stay focused and keep working hard to claim that gold in Hungary,” she said.

“I don’t think about what happened last year. I can’t dwell on that. I just move forward and look forward for this new season,” she added.

Thompson-Herah, who is the fastest woman alive over the 100m after clocking a time of 10.45 seconds, has never won a gold medal at the World Championships.

Last year in Eugene, Oregon, the Manchester native claimed a bronze medal in a Jamaican one-two-three in the 100m alongside Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Sheicka Jackson. She also got a silver in the women’s 4x100m.

Her first World Championship medal was won in the 200m, where she claimed silver in the event in Beijing, China. This year’s edition of the Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary.

Meanwhile, she added that her preparations this season have been going well and that once she remains healthy, it will be a chance to improve her performances.

“Preparation is going good you know. I’m really confident in myself as always. It’s really going good. Once I complete each day, I’m really grateful, I give God thanks…”

“So, I’m just taking it day by day, week by week and month by month. You know each day I try to improve, each month to improve. So, once I’m healthy, I’m good.”

Earlier at the meet, 200m World Champion Shericka Jackson openedher season in the 400m and won her heat in 53.11 seconds.
