Top Grammy style moments

The 2023 Grammys, officially known as the 65th Grammy Awards, returns to Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena today! SO, like many on The Rock, has a love/hate relationship with the awards that each year seek to spotlight the best musical recordings, compositions and artistes. We’re of one accord, however, that our Caribbean peeps know how to step pon the red carpet and hold the spotlight. As we ready to applaud lustily or raise eyebrows this year, how about a walk down memory lane to reflect on some of the Caribbean’s and indeed the Grammys’ most iconic moments from dancehall star Spice’s 90-pound ruffled cape worn last year to Grace Jones’ 1983 Issey Miyake show-stopper.

1983Grace Jones shut down the red carpet for the award show’s 25th anniversary in an ultra-wide-brim hat (which Rick James posed under) and matching black Issey Miyake leather ensemble..
1983.
1984Grace Jones (right) once again hit the 26th Annual Grammy Awards red carpet with her Conan the Destroyer co-star Sarah Douglas.
1991Naomi Campbell delivered a major ’90s fashion moment in a colourful mini dress and red feather boa.
2002Though many fashion critics agreed that singer and songwriter Alicia Key’s Christian Dior red-carpet look fell flat.
…her career hit a high note when she won five gramophones at the 44th Grammy Awards.
2004Sean Paul’s early 2000s style included cornrows, open-collared shirts, and lots of bling. He showed it all off as he posed with his Grammy for Best Reggae Album Dutty Rock at the 46th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
2013Sean Paul’s mohawk was one of the many hair-raising moments at the 55th annual awards!
2015Go big or go home: Rihanna wore a swoon-worthy princess gown by Giambattista Valli Couture to the Grammys.
2017Rihanna was a vision in a two-piece Armani Privé look with Chopard jewellery.
2012Who could forget that time rapper Nicki Minaj showed up to the 2012 Grammy Awards in a red satin Versace robe emblazoned with the house’s signature Medusa head?
2013Rihanna set the red carpet on fire when she stepped out in this sheer red gown by Azzedine Alaïa.

2020Gorgeous in a canary yellow Keneea Linton show-stopper and carrying a Beenybud Jamaica clutch was Miss Universe 2010 first runner-up Yendi Phillipps as she graced the red carpet. (Photo: Instagram.com/yendizzle)
2018Reggae artiste Shaggy (left) and English rockstar Sting were both suited and booted as they attended the 60th Annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Shaggy has two Grammy wins under his belt; he won in 1996 for the album Boombastic and again in 2019 for the joint album 44/876 with Sting.
2022The SO team knows all too well that Grammy-nominated artiste Grace “Spice” Hamilton is not afraid of colour, and as one of the most recognised dancehall artistes worldwide, standing out is always a #SpiceGoal. She did so with aplomb at the 2022 Grammys in a sheer, cut-out gown, a red, ruffled cape that weighed 90 pounds, and teal hair styled into a topknot. (Photo: IG: @spiceofficial)
2020Formally clad in Thom Browne was Grammy Award-winning reggae star Koffee whose Rapture EP copped the award for Best Reggae album.
