10-man Jamaica fall to Guadeloupe at U-17 Championships

Jamaica’s bid to progress to the next round of Concacaf qualifying for the Under-17 World Cup took a hit on Tuesday after the young Reggae Boyz gave up an early lead and were beaten 2-1 by Guadeloupe in their Group G game at Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

After Sunday’s opening 4-2 win over Cuba, a win would have seen the young Boyz advance to the knockout stage of the qualification for the Under-17 World Cup in Peru later this year but Guadeloupe rebounded from their opening loss to Costa Rica to beat 10-man Jamaica.

Jamaica played with 10 men from the 38th minute after Nahshon Bolt Barrett was shown his second yellow card and ejected.

He was also shown a yellow card in the first game on Sunday.

Ronald Barrett gave Jamaica the lead early in the game when his powerful shot from well outside the area flew past Guadelopue’s goalkeeper Wilhem Perron in the 41st minute.

Willian Jacques brought Guadeloupe back level when he scored in the 78th minute before Ylan Moloza scored the winner in the 89th minute.
