Cops kill man in shootout, firearm seized
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – A man was killed in an alleged shootout with the police in Old Harbour, St Catherine on Wednesday morning.
An illegal firearm was seized following the incident, the police said.
The deceased has not yet been identified.
Information reaching OBSERVER ONLINE is that around 3:45 am, police responded to reports of cars being broken into along Lauriston Avenue in a community known as Ainsley Lodge.
While patrolling the area, the police accosted a man, who brandished a firearm and opened gunfire. The lawmen returned the fire and the man was hit.
He was reportedly rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police said one Tanfoglio pistol with a magazine containing four rounds was taken from him.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since been informed of the incident.
