Edwin Allen run away with cash at Milo Western Relays
ANGELS, St Catherine — Edwin Allen High girls’ and boys’ teams won over $200,000 in cash prizes at Saturday’s 44th staging of the Milo Western Relays after they combined to win five of the six championship events at GC Foster sports college in Angels, St Catherine.
The Edwin Allen High teams won both Class One 4x100m relays, the 4x400m Open relays, while the girls won the 4x800m and Kingston College won the high school boys’ 4x800m as well.
In all, 10 schools won nearly $450,000 in the incentive scheme that restarted this year with the return of title sponsor Milo, with $40,000 going to the winners of the designated events, $20,000 to the runners-up and $10,000 to third-place finishers.
Other teams that won cash prizes were — Holmwood ($60,000), Excelsior High ($40,000), St Jago High ($20,000), Vere Technical ($20,000), Mt Alvernia High ($15,000), Herbert Morrison ($10,000), while Green Island and Bellefield High won $5,000 each.
The Edwin Allen teams won both Class One 4x100m races and the 4x400m Open, while Edwin Allen retained the girls’ 4x800m Open. Kingston College won the boys’ 4x800m race.
Additionally, Edwin Allen girls won the Class Three girls’ 4x100m, while Mt Alvernia High won the Class Four race. On the boys’ side, Kingston College won classes Three and Four, while Excelsior High won in Class Two.
Kingston College won the Class One boys’ 4x200m and Excelsior High won the Class Two with Edwin Allen winning the girls’ 4x200m Open. Holmwood Technical won the High School girls’ sprint medley Open.
Excelsior High swept the boys’ sprint hurdles titles with Richard Hall running a personal best 14.19 seconds (1.9m/s); Demarco Bennett won Class Two with a wind-aided 15.27 seconds (2.4m/s) and Tajay Graham won Class Three in 15.34 seconds.
Mt Alvernia High’s Aaliyah Foster won the women’s long jump Open with a season’s best 5.76m (-3.4); Herbert Morrison’s DeAndre Daley won the men’s 100m in a wind-aided 10.42 seconds (2.1m/s); Tyreese Ebanks of Green Island won the men’s 400m in 49.34 seconds while Holmwood Technical’s Britannia Bailey won the women’s 400m in a lifetime best 57.20 seconds.
