DJ Stinga to blaze at Lit
St Mary’s DJ Stinga says it’s important that disc jocks and selectors pay attention to the patrons and their reactions to the selections while playing at events.
“I don’t normally just attend events that I am working at, I am a big fan of parties too. So I’m aware of what the patrons want. When it comes to reading a crowd, I present myself as a patron to see what’s missing from the musical presentation to create the energy and song selections that the patrons need,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
DJ Stinga hopes to bring the musical vibes at this Saturday’s staging of Lit: Chic Flick which takes place at the National Stadium in St Andrew. The event, which is promoted by BONZ Entertainment, will also feature Coppershot, Fyah 105 FM‘s DJ Nova, and the in-demand Shukkle Bus.
For DJ Stinga, Lit: Chic Flick is a top-tier event. He has showcased his skills outside of Jamaica in countries such as Panama and The Bahamas. On the local scene, he had done sets at the Soaka Fiesta Water party and Saint Tropez New Year’s Eve party, both of which were held in St Mary.
He shared how he came by the name DJ Stinga.
“When I was in high school, my friends called me Stinga Blinga and when I started pursuing my DJ career four years ago, I decided to use Stinga because I think its rare and unique. However, my real name is Travoy Harrison,” he disclosed.
DJ Stinga continued, “As a DJ, I’m always about creativity, bringing out all genres of music and drawing for solid song selections to please all the patrons.”
The disc jock grew up in Oracabessa, St Mary, and is a past student of St Mary High. He hopes to expand on his musical horizons by venturing into music production and beat making.
Akeem Hines is a director of BONZ Entertainment. He said things are in place to ensure that patrons have a good time at Lit: Chic Flick.
He said the inclusion of up-and-coming disc jock DJ Stinga on the line-up was the team’s way of supporting new talent.
“As a growing brand, BONZ Entertainment understands the importance of supporting up-and-coming talents. As such, we make an effort to give an uprising DJ the platform to develop their craft at each staging,” said Hines.
