Cavalier, Chapleton score wins in JPL doubleheader
KINGSTON, Jamaica- Cavalier FC returned to third place in the Jamaica Premier League after scoring a hard-fought 1-0 win over Vere United in their second-round game played at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium in Kingston on Monday.
Collin Anderson snapped a two-game scoring drought when he scored his 11th goal of the season in the 70th minute to break the deadlock.
It was Cavalier FC’s second win over Vere United this season as they ended their own two games winless run to move to 29 points, one point behind second-placed Arnett Gardens and three behind leaders Mt Pleasant FA.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Chapleton Maroons got their first win under coach Clovis DeOliviera, beating Tivoli Gardens 2-0 with Earon Elliot coming off the bench to score a late brace.
Elliot scored in the 83rd minute and deep into stoppage time for Chapleton’s first win since they were docked six points by the Competitions Committee after they failed to field a team against Mt Pleasant FA.
They are still at the foot of the tables, however, on six points, one behind fellow promoted team Faulkland FC.
