Netflix cuts subscription prices in over 30 countries, including Jamaica
Jamaica is among the more than 30 countries in which streaming giant Netflix has slashed prices in an attempt to attract more subscribers.
Prices have been cut in parts of Asia, Europe, Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.
The cuts apply to certain price plans, with subscription charges falling by half in some cases.
This decision comes as a result of the rising cost of living that sees some households tightening their belts and Netflix facing increased competition from rival services.
“We’re always exploring ways to improve our members’ experience. We can confirm that we are updating the pricing of our plans in certain countries,” a Netflix spokesperson told the BBC.
Netflix, which operates in more than 190 countries, has faced increased competition from streaming rivals including Amazon, HBO and Disney Plus.
“Members have never had more choices when it comes to entertainment,” Netflix said.
Last year, the firm cut hundreds of jobs and launched a less expensive streaming option with adverts as it fought to grow its share of the increasingly competitive streaming market.
The company had also planned to crack down on people sharing their subscriptions, with announcements earlier this month that customers would be required to pay an extra fee if they want friends and family who do not live with them to share their subscriptions.
However, there were reports that the company rolled back this measure amid far-reaching customer complaints.
