Nine X’s great inspiration
Since releasing his first single Summa Supn in 2017, singjay Nine X hasn’t looked back. He has put his real-life experiences in his debut EP, titled Ama Be Great.
“Music has been embedded in me from an early age. My mother said I have been singing before I was able to speak. But I have been doing music since my teenage years where I used to do dubplates for sound systems and also perform at stage shows in and around the community,” said the Above Rocks, St Catherine, resident.
In January, he released Ama Be Great, which comprises a mixture of reggae and dancehall material. The project features production work by D’money Records, Fast Nation Music, Ghetto Life Records, Hype Entertainment and Bad Breed Entertainment.
“The name of the EP was inspired by the struggles that I have faced and the determination of being successful at what I do,” he said.
Songs on the EP include Growth, Try Bench Mi, Hot, Dem Nuh Loyal and Cyber Crime.
Nine X, whose real name is Andrew Rohan Carr, says his journey in music has been somewhat of a challenge.
“It has been challenging because I was always back and forth with the idea of whether I am really going to pursue music. When I really decided to do it, I was sidelined by a couple producers who I worked with. But I have never given up and I decided to pursue my musical goals,” said Nine X.
