Jackson to compete in 400m at G C Foster College Classic
WORLD 200-metre champion Shericka Jackson will continue her build-up to the season today when she competes in the women’s 400m at the G C Foster Classic that will be held on the college’s campus in Angels, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The 28-year-old Jackson, who opened her season in the 400m at the The Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet with a 53.11-second clocking, is set to compete in heat two of the timed final where she will face Ronda Whyte, Anthonique Strachan, Shana-Kaye Anderson and Anncia Richards.
Jackson, who won the 200m world title in Eugene, Oregon, last July, is the second-fastest woman of all time in the event with a time of 21.45. The versatile athlete also currently has personal best times of 10.71 in the 100m and 49.47 in the 400m.
Olympic Games 110m hurdles bronze medallist Ronald Levy is set to open his season today when he is scheduled to compete in heat five of the men’s 100m event.
Levy, who has been struggling with injuries, will be competing for the first time in almost a year. In fact, the last time he competed was the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Serbia on March 20, 2022.
Tajay Gayle, the 2019 World long jump champion, will contest heat six of the men’s 100m during which he will face Rasheed Dwyer, Kadrian Goldson, Oshane Bailey, Brendon Rodeny, and Emmanuel Archibald.
Stephenie Ann McPherson, the 2018 Commonwealth Games 400m champion, is scheduled to run in heat three of the women’s 200m and she will be going up against Shashalee Forbes, Jura Levy, Jonielle Smith, Natasha Morrison and Ronda Whyte.
Events down to be contested on the day are the 100m, 400m, and 800 metres, as well as the 70, 80, 100, 110, and 400-metre hurdles. There will also be the 2,000-metre steeplechase.
On the field there will be the high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, and javelin.
Only seniors will contest the 200 metres, while there will be relays for primary schools.
Meanwhile, the meet is open to male and female junior and senior athletes and each institution will be allowed to enter three athletes per class, per event, except for the high jump in which only two competitors are allowed.
This year’s staging will see two individuals — former principal of G C Foster Yvonne Kong, and former Chairman David Mais — being honoured.
