Unsanitised trucks selling water trigger health concerns in Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica— A date has been set for the convening of a meeting between the Trelawny Municipal Corporation (TMC) and other stakeholders in the parish to address the reported widespread sale of water, transported in privately- operated trucks, which are oftentimes unsanitised.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15 at the Falmouth Town Hall.
Speaking at the regular monthly meeting of the TMC on Thursday, Mayor of Falmouth and chairman of the municipality, Councillor C Junior Gager, expressed mounting health concerns over the distribution of water by some of these privately-owned trucks.
“Something has to be put in place. So that is why we have called a meeting which will be on the 15th [March] for a discussion here between the health department, NWC [National Water Commission], police, and every stakeholder,” Gager said.
Privately- operated trucks have received an increase in business as the demand for water has escalated due to drought conditions across the parish.
