Inspire Force, Secret Admiral — the main contenders in Milligram Trophy

All attention on the race card of Saturday, March 18, 2023, will be placed on participants in the Restricted Allowance II contest for native-bred three year olds (non-winners of two) and imported three year olds and upwards (maidens) call for the Milligram Trophy at 7½ furlongs (1,500m).

Below is the analysis of each runner and their chances of winning, done in draw order.

1. INSPIRE FORCE (USA): (3 ch c by Union Jackson – Exotic Design) – A highly rated colt who made his local debut on February 18, Inspire Force finished in a close third place behind Bootylicious and Burlap going 6 furlongs. Then Inspire Force, who was seen making strong headway in deep stretch, is going to appreciate this extended trip and, based on his first run, could lead these home. Plus, Inspire Force has been working well for this encounter.

2. ATLANTIC CONVOY (USA): (3 ch c by Stormy Convoy – My Sweet Emily) – Finished second on his debut on February 4 over the straight course (1,000m). Atlantic Convoy should have benefited from the outing and, given a more relaxed pace here, could be in the thick of things throughout. The presence of the champion jockey will aid his cause. Note, Atlantic Convoy races with first time Lasix.

3. BOASEY: (3 b f by Casual Trick – The Golden One) – Has no realistic chance of winning.

4. PRETTY CAROLINE (USA): (3 b f by Flintshire – Caroline) – Did not do much on her local debut on March 4. Pretty Caroline finished in fifth place behind Milos and Flybluejet over 5 furlongs round. With Flybluejet present again, along with other highly rated runners, Pretty Caroline has no chance of winning. Note, Pretty Caroline races with first time Lasix.

5. FLYBLUEJET (USA): (3 dk b/br f by Air Force Blue – Perfectly Beautiful) – Has raced three times on thus far, finishing second twice and third once. One of Flybluejet‘s second-place finishes came after a disqualification from first place, so she has already tasted victory. Flybluejet will get this distance and should once again be a tough contender.

6. SHE’S MYHEDGEFUND: (3 ch f Hedge Fund – Thisgirlisonfire) – Has no form to recommend.

7. ANONYMOUS: (3 b c by Lion Tamer – Eighteen Karat) – Should have done much better than his third-place finish behind Roulette Boss and Durocell over 7½ furlongs on February 26. Anonymous, with a liking for the long-distance races, is expected to do well.

8. BIG GUY IN THESKY: (3 b c by Natural Selection – Granville Greta) – Made a bold bid when finishing in second place by 3½ lengths to El Afortunado in the Sir Howard Stakes over 6 furlongs on March 12. Big Guy In The Sky, bred to cover a lot of ground, could also be a serious contender but for a minor placing.

9. SECRET ADMIRAL: (3 ch c by Admiral Alex – Secret Cat) – Made an exciting and eye-catching, come-from-behind debut win by 5½ lengths in the $990,000 I Love February Trophy feature race on Saturday, February 11, 2023, over 7 furlongs (1,400m). Secret Admiral came from behind runners to win in a time of 1:30.0. With the distance, not a problem Secret Admiral, based on his running style and the improvement, is going to be in the fray when decision time comes around.
