Cornwall alumnus Andrew Minott launches autobiography
For the February 1 launch of his autobiography, Prove ‘Em Wrong, at Wynwood Miami, Andrew Minott was surrounded by many of his schoolmates from Cornwall College. Although graduating from that St James high school more than 40 years ago, he savours the lasting impression it made on him.
Prove ‘Em Wrong reflects on the Montego Bay-born Minott’s years at Cornwall College, migration to the United States one year after graduation, life in the military and his success as a show promoter in South Florida.
He is the youngest of three brothers to attend ‘Cornwall’. The eldest, Robert “Fino” Minott, graduated in 1972, while Lawrence “Mini” Minott graduated in 1978, the year Andrew first entered Cornwall’s gates as a student.
“What I learned from Cornwall was to cherish friendships; a lot of these guys I’ve known for 40 years. Red and gold [colours of Cornwall College] is a strong bond, that’s why I put in the book, ‘Red and gold forever’,” he said.
Minott is CEO of Anchor Minott Foundation and Global Vybz Entertainment. He leaves no stone unturned in Prove ‘Em Wrong, which he wrote with Kevin E Taylor.
The dreadlocked Minott revisits an indifferent relationship with his father, his time in the military and college as well as a dark period when he was incarcerated. Initially, reflecting on his time behind bars was difficult, but Minott believes it is important for him to help steer wayward youngsters on the right path.
“I just hope that they can learn from my mistakes,” said Minott, who hopes to visit Cornwall College as part of his Jamaican launch of Prove ‘Em Wrong.
