Mojito, the champion two-year-old from last season, headlines a full field of 16 runners provisionally entered for the Prince Consort Stakes, one of the major prep races on the “Road to the Triple Crown”. The Prince Consort is for colts and geldings.

The native-bred three-year-old Graded Stakes race will be run over 7 furlongs (1,400m) on Sunday, April 9, 2023. The purse for the event is $1.75 million.

Mojito, a grey colt bred by Savoy Stomp out of Fiftyshadesofray, has yet to race this season but should report in good shape for this trophy race. He last raced in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes last December, when he won by three lengths in a time of 1:41.1. Mojito, trained by Richard Azan, will have stablemate Burlap for company in the race.

Trainer Anthony Nunes has four runners entered — El Afortunado, Milos, Anonymous, and Curlin’s Noon. El Afortunado, after his win in the Sir Howard Stakes, is going to have a lot of supporters and could turn this race into a battle between himself and Mojito.

Gary Subratie and Carl Anderson have two runners each to contest the main principals here. Subratie has Big Guy In TheSky and Slam Dunk, while Burning Valor and Secret Admiral will carry Anderson’s flag.

Champion trainer Jason DaCosta, has only one entry, Whiz Kidd.

Other notable entries are Roulette Boss, trained by Dennis Thwaites; Ridge Liner, trained by Dale Murphy; and Loyal Action from the barn of Gary Crawford.
