Sandz headliner Rick Ross excited for visit to Jamaica, wants to meet up-and-coming artistes
American rapper Rick Ross says he is excited to be on the island this weekend as he believes that the Jamaican culture is extremely impactful and influential.
The international artiste was speaking at a virtual press conference on Friday. Rick Ross is the headliner for Sandz Caribbean Music Festival, which will be held this Sunday, April 9 at Plantation Cove in St Ann.
“When I think of Jamaican culture, when I think of Bob Marley, when I think of so many different other artistes that are just so powerful and influential – and not just in Florida and not just Miami – but really the whole culture of music, it is bigger than we could ever imagine. When I think of music, and Bob Marley there’s almost nobody I feel that has had a bigger impact on life, not just music. It’s a beautiful thing,” Rick Ross said.
Sandz Caribbean Music Festival is among seven events slated for Vacae Weekend which is scheduled to run from April 7-10, at several venues within the environs of Ocho Rios, St Ann. The series also features popular events such as The Lawn, Pan Di Plaza, Strictly2k, Aquaholix Fete, Ova Suh and The Estate Jamaica.
As for Rick Ross, he is eager to party and feel the energy of the crowd that is expected to be at Sandz but says he also cannot wait to land and “go to the best fish spot” and enjoy the other attractions that have become popular in Jamaica.
“I wanna come perform my music and also for me, coming to Jamaica, I just wanna absorb that real Jamaica vibe. As soon as I get there I wanna land and go to the best fish spot, I told them the next day I wanna go water rafting, I want to eat some real curry chicken, some oxtail… yes, me want live life, me only have one life fi live,” Ross said attempting to speak patois.
He added that while he is on the island, he would like to be introduced to some young artistes for potential collaborations as he does not know many of those who are currently on the rise in the industry.
“When I think of new, young artistes, there’s nobody that just comes to my mind right now so hopefully while I am there I can be introduced to at least six to a dozen young artistes. That would be cool, that would be dope,” he said.
Rick Ross will a part of the cadre of artistes appearing over the four days of events including, Beenie Man, Gyptian, Moyann, Munga Honorable, and Stalk Ashley.
