Slippery Wen Wett returns Sunday
Fans of drift action can head out to the Falmouth cruise ship pier, Trelawny, this Sunday, April 16, as popular drift series Slippery Wen Wett starts its 2023 season.
“Spectators can come to see the best drifters competing to get first dibs on the drift series trophy. This drift series will cement drifting officially a new genre in Jamaican Motorsport,” Kingsley Scott, event promoter, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
This year will see the complete transition of Scott’s Slippery Wen Wett dexterity events into a full drift series as it spent last year as part of the international Red Bull Car Park Drift championship. Previously the event used a timed wet dexterity format made popular on the western end of the island. This saw the venue surface kept wet to balance the differences between the three automotive drivetrain types that enter, rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive.
“There is no Red Bull Car Park drift series this year. Slippery Wen Wett is the only drift series for 2023,” said Scott.
With the experience gained through participating in the Red Bull Car Park drift series in 2022, Slippery Wen Wett’s new format will retain that of last year’s.
“The format is as follows; this is not a timed event, all points as per hitting flippers, pendulums, and executing obstacles. Points will be deducted for penalties,” explained Scott.
The new format went over well by both competitors and patrons in 2022, so Scott is expecting no less for 2023.
“With the experience gained going to Saudi Arabia and witnessing drifting at multiple events, we are promising a full package for our patrons and professionalism to the sport of drifting.”
