KFC fuels KFA European football tour
KINGSTON Football Academy (KFA), one of the fastest-growing youth football organisations in Jamaica, is celebrating a second-straight successful European tour, thanks in large part to the continued support of Restaurants of Jamaica (ROJ), through their KFC brand.
Along with over $1 million in cash and meal support throughout the season, KFA was also the beneficiary of an additional sponsorship package of $900,000 to assist with covering the costs of their recent trip to Europe, where they played a series of matches and in a tournament against teams from the Netherlands, Germany, England, Denmark, Italy and Belgium.
Earlier this month the KFA played a series of matches against some top European football clubs, including PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Monchengladbach. The Under-15 football team placed third out of 52 teams competing in the tournament. The Under-17 football team was ranked first in their tournament, maintaining their win streak after competing and winning on last year’s trip when they played in the Under-16 category.
Playing against professional football clubs KFA achieved one win, four draws and three losses.
“We take great pride in knowing that we were, once again, able to play our part in making the KFA trip to Europe a success. It is a big deal for us because the players have such immense drive and potential, and with the commitment of their coaches they continue to prove themselves worthy of competing in an international space. The KFA has made themselves, families, the entire country, and of course our team, proud”, said ROJ Brand Manager Andrei Roper.
KFC has supported KFA since 2017 as a training programme for Campion College students; it eventually expanded to welcome all young Jamaican football players over three years ago. KFA has expressed gratitude to the brand for its consistent support via cash sponsorships and meal donations, which amplified its continued growth and success.
“We might not have made it to Europe if KFC had not stepped in when we needed them. Since we came on the scene they have been extremely generous, offering our academy money and our boys food. So, it was certainly not taken for granted when they sponsored our trip again this year. Their contribution helped us to afford aeroplane tickets, hotel accommodation and other transportation,” said KFA Director and Coach Eric Rademakers.
