Former dancehall producer Liddon Wright makes debut as gospel artiste
There was a time when Liddon Wright loved creating dancehall beats and producing songs for his Super Love Music label. But 10 years ago, he experienced a spiritual awakening and turned his back on a promising career.
Recently, Wright made his debut as an artiste with Nobody Can Conquer You, an inspirational, self-produced song that projects his faith.
Based in Florida, he played the waiting game before finally recording his first song.
“First, nothing is done before time. I have been spending most of my time producing other people’s tracks, now I feel it’s my time,” Wright told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Nobody Can Conquer You is driven by a West African melody that he believes reflects the positive, happy outlook of Christianity. It is a feeling Wright has had since giving his life to Christ a decade ago.
“From a producers point of view, I wanted my audience to enjoy an upbeat song, something they can relate to. Something that will uplift their spirits and make them rock to the beat. It has an Island twist to it,” he said.
Born in Kingston, Wright has been fascinated by music since childhood. He remembers hanging around his grandfather while he played records on his home stereo and developing an appreciation for diverse genres.
He began producing songs almost 20 years ago. His biggest project was the Stuckie ‘riddim’ which pushed songs like Can’t Get me Down by Busy Signal, Delly Ranks (Food For The Poor) and Mr Lexx (Everyday).
Wright also produced songs by Third World singer Bunny Rugs and George Nooks.
These days he is singing a different tune, and there are no regrets.
“2013 is when I felt the call of God on my life. I miss it (dancehall music) in certain perspective but I knew it was time for a change. And now I embrace my new life in Christ,” said Wright.
