Top-of-the-zone clash today

TUCKER, St James – Former champions Mt Salem Primary and Flankers Primary will meet in a top-of-the-zone clash when they face off in the third game of a St James Football Association Victoria Mutual Foundation Uplift Under-13 at Wespow Park today.

Mt Salem, Flankers and Corinaldi Avenue Primary are all tied on three points in Zone B after winning their opening games and will all be seeking to extend their winning starts.

Corinaldi Avenue will play Lethe in one game, while Irwin Primary and Barrett Town, who are still to get their first point, will meet in the other games.

Mt Salem Primary, which won the last of their three titles in 2011, has a slight lead in the tables, on goal-difference, after beating Lethe Primary 2-0 in their opening while Flankers had edged Barrett Town 2-1.

Corinaldi Avenue had also scored an opening game 2-1 win over Irwin Primary and should get the better of Lethe Primary today.

Meanwhile, former champions Catherine Hall and John Rollins Success Primary scored back-to-back wins to take over the lead in Zone D after wins on Tuesday at Wespow Park.

Ajani Stephens and Jhuwayne Chambers scored doubles to lead Catherine Hall to a 7-0 win over Pinnacle Academy, while John Rollins Success outscored St James Prep 3-2.

In the other game, Buckingham Primary and Farm Primary drew 2-2.

It was the second-straight 7-0 loss for Pinnacle Academy after they were beaten by the same scoreline by Buckingham Primary the previous game.

Catherine Hall led 3-0 at half-time with goals from Stephens in the seventh minute, Morris in the 24th and Jhuwayne Chambers in the 29th minute.

Ayden Brown in the 40th minute, Stephens again in the 47th minute, Morris in the 57th minute and Amani Allen in the 58th minute took Catherine Hall to the top of the tables on goal difference.

Kevin O’Gilvie scored a second-half double for John Rollins Success Primary as they came from a goal down to snatch three points.

Antoine Rowe, who scored both goals for St James Prep, opened the scoring in the 15th minute but Rasendre Anglin equalised in the 35th before O’Gilvie gave them the lead in the 51st minute then added his second and the team’s third a minute into time added.

Rowe then cut the deficit to one goal a minute later but St James Prep ran out of time to earn a point.

Farm Primary, who were beaten 3-0 in their opening game, took the lead against Buckingham Primary when Drake Lawrence fired into the top of the goal past the keeper in the 26th minute.

Buckingham were handed the equaliser when a Farm player put one past his own goalkeeper in the 28th minute before Kevon Edwards gave them the lead in the 51st minute.

Omar Pusey grabbed a point for Farm Primary when he scored in the 54th minute.
