Victory could see Racing into Tier II semi-finals
RACING United of St Catherine can join early semi-final qualifiers Treasure Beach if they can beat Reno FC in their Jamaica Football Federation Tier II 12th-round game at the St Catherine Prison Oval today in a 3:30 pm kick-off.
Racing United are in second place in the points table on 26 — two behind Treasure Beach FC who secured their semi-final place on Wednesday — and a win over Reno FC today would see them also secure a top four place.
Two other contenders, third-place Meadforest FC and fifth-place Lime Hall Academy, will meet in the second game of a Drax Hall double-header from which the winner would take a big step forward.
After a blazing start Racing United have cooled down a bit but are still in control of their own fate, and a win over the inconsistent Westmoreland club today would see them advance.
Racing United have scored 53 goals, but only four in their last three games, and face a dangerous Reno FC who have little to play for and are coming off a big 6-1 win on Wednesday, albeit against relegation-threatened Wadada United at home.
Raheem Edwards, who leads the goal scoring with 23 goals, broke a long drought on Wednesday but will hope to get on the scoresheet again today, while Reno FC’s Michael Kerr and Jashane Foster will be hunting more goals.
Meadforest FC have also cooled off after a bright start and only returned to the top four on Wednesday. They will hope to keep Lime Hall Academy at bay in a game that sees a point separating the two teams.
Meadforest FC, who snapped a two-game losing skid before beating last-place Downs YC 2-0 on Wednesday, are on 22 points. Anything but a win today could see them out of the top four with one round of games to play after today’s fixtures.
Lime Hall Academy have performed far better than last season but must keep their feet to the gas pedal and rebound from Wednesday’s draw against Tru-Juice if they are to stay in contention.
Tru-Juice FC, who are in fourth place on goal difference ahead of Lime Hall, will have their hands full against an ambitious Falmouth United who are seeking back-to-back semi-final spots.
Tru-Juice FC beat Falmouth United 2-1 last season and another win today could secure their place in the top four after they missed out on goal difference last season.
Albion Mountain are also still in the race, mathematically, and will host Downs YC. A win would boost their hopes.
