Treasure Beach within reach of topping Tier II competition
TREASURE BEACH, St Elizabeth — Treasure Beach FC could move to within a point of topping the first-round points table if they can beat Hopewell United in their rescheduled Jamaica Football Federation Tier II game at Breds Sports Complex in St Elizabeth today, set to start at 3:30 pm.
The game was originally scheduled to be part of Saturday’s 12th round of matches but was not played as the assigned officials did not show up.
Treasure Beach, who were the first semi-final qualifiers, are on 28 points from 11 games, one point behind Racing United who secured their semi-final place on Saturday.
Meanwhile Hopewell United are hoping for at least a point, which would take them out of the relegation zone.
Hopewell United are in 13th place in the 14-team competition on six points, one behind Wadada United and two behind Portlanders FC.
The first round will end on Saturday and, on paper, four other teams are in contention to join Treasure Beach and Racing in the return-leg semi-finals which are set to be played June 25 and July 2, with the winners qualifying for next season’s Jamaica Premier League.
