Emmanuel Christian Academy faces tough task to retain Prep Champs title
Defending champions Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA) will be gunning to retain their JISA/Little Ceasars Preparatory Schools Championships when the three-day event starts at the National Stadium on Thursday.
ECA tallied 230.5 points to win last year’s title ahead of Sts Peter and Paul (185.67) and former champions Hydel (184).
But ECA Head Coach Gregory Jones says his team is not as strong as he would like it to be when compared to last year’s side, but he is confident that they will put on a good showing over the next three days.
“We are going to be very competitive, but we don’t’ have the depth this year compared to last year to win, but we know that we will be very competitive,” he said.
“Our athletes are feeling optimistic and confident about the championship because they know the task at hand and they know what is required is 100 per cent [application], so they are ready.”
Jones shared that Sts Peter and Paul have shown at the various development meets that they will be the team to beat this year, but says that the Championships is going to be close throughout the three days.
“I think that it is going to be a close championship because we know who the pre-championships are but it is not going to be a run-away for anybody,” he Jones.
“However, it is going to be tougher for us because Sts Peter and Paul is the team to beat this year.” he pointed out.
Sts Peter and Paul Head Coach Jerome Kirby says based on his team’s performance in the build-up to the championships, he is quietly confident that they can win the title this year.
“We are feeling excited going into this championships because we put in a lot of hard work last year, so we are going to step up this year and win the title,” Kirby said.
“We have a very good team and also a very strong team so we are looking good and we are excited to see what the competition will look like with the other schools over the three days of competition.” he said.
The meet gets started at 9 am with the finals in the Class Two Girls’ high jump and the Class Two Boys’ long jump.
