Hopewell grab valuable point in Tier II relegation scrap
Hopewell United continued their fight against relegation from the Jamaica Football Federation Tier II competition when they came from behind twice to hold semi-final qualifiers Treasure Beach 2-2 in their rescheduled game played at Breds Treasure Beach Sports Park in St Elizabeth.
The point earned saw Hopewell United inch out of the relegation zone on goal difference over Wadada United, both on seven points, with one game left to be played in the first round.
The draw also left Treasure Beach in second place, behind Racing United, who has a significant goal difference over the St Elizabeth team, both tied on 29 points.
A win for Treasure Beach would all but secure top spot after the first round.
Ajay Smith gave Treasure Beach the lead after 18 minutes, but Juniel McDonald equalised for Hopewell United in the 21st minute as they stayed locked at 1-1 at half-time.
Shanoy Smith restored Treasure Beach the lead when he scored in the 52nd minute, but a late goal, in the 88th minute from Rayon Walker, earned the Hanover team what could be a valuable point.
