A Father’s Day playlist
KINGSTON, Jamaica — When it comes to songs dedicated to mothers, there’s a surplus to choose from to curate an extra special playlist for the women who gave us life. But for dads, tracks saluting the men responsible for providing and protecting, there are only a handful.
The latter may be partly due to the large number of single mother households in Jamaica. Still, as we celebrate Father’s Day, it would be remiss of OBSERVER ONLINE not to celebrate the dads who have been exemplary. To the soldiers, who have lived up to their responsibilities, we want to show you some love on your special day. Here are a few songs dedicated to you and the role you play in molding and guiding your children:
1. JAHMIEL – REAL FATHER

2. Ky-Mani Marley – Dear Dad (The Letter)
On Father’s Day, we not only celebrate the dads who are living, but also those who have transitioned. We celebrate the fathers who, because of tragic circumstances, did not get to see their children grow or have a hand in their upbringing. Today, we remember those fathers in the song, Ky-Mani Marley dedicated to his own — the late Robert Nesta Marley. As son of a musical giant, Ky-Mani dug deep as he recalled very few memories shared with his father and expressed how much he wished the late reggae icon could have seen his children become adults, following in his footsteps and carrying on his legacy. To those missing their fathers on this special day, take comfort in knowing the way he lived his life has left a lasting mark on yours.
