Chin-Sang eager for this year’s Synchro Summer Camp
Robyn Chin-Sang, Jamaica’s vice-president for Artistic Swimming, expects the 2023 Synchro Summer Camp to not only advance artistic swimming but also to foster the younger generation of swimmers.
The Synchro Summer Camp will run for six weeks from July 3 to August 10 on Mondays to Saturdays at the National Stadium pool. The camp is for children ages six to 16.
“Jamaica has a lot of young talent in the sport. It is our aim to expose them and help develop new stars,” Chin-Sang told the Jamaica Observer.
“Whatever the outcome of our summer camp is, we will continue to motivate and build the sport through local and international competitions and workshops. These courses will require financial support from corporate entities, in addition to our own efforts in fund-raising. After the camp has ended, we will hyper-focus on our upcoming term in September,” the vice-president further stated.
The Synchro Summer Camp’s activities included artistic swimming, gymnastics, dancing, surfing, sewing, art and craft, swimming technique, endurance training, weekly challenges, workshops, games, prizes, and surprises.
Chin-Sang says the camp experience is a good beginning for athletes interested in artistic swimming since it provides a wide range of activities that complement the sport.
“During COVID-19, we had a limited number of athletes in 12 due to the restrictions, but previous times we have had as many as 28 athletes at any given time,” she said. “Some athletes will register for just a couple weeks since our programme runs for six weeks.
“The Synchro Summer Fun Camp is to help bring awareness and attract new athletes and sponsors to artistic swimming. The camp is also for our current athletes to be further motivated and improve on their skills.”
