Market Bag: Higher prices for tomato, sweet pepper among other food items
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Food prices continued to rise at the Coronation Market this week.
Among the items attracting higher prices this week are tomato, which is being sold for $250 a pound; sweet pepper, also $250 a pound; and Irish potato, going for $160 per pound.
Vendors attribute the increases to the recent heavy rains combined with the current drought conditions, which they say have stifled supplies.
Market Bag host Kelsey Thomas went to the downtown Kingston market with a budget of $3,000 this week. Check out what she could afford.
