University Singers celebrates 65th concert season
The University Singers in currently in concert for its 65th season which commenced June 9.
This year’s programme showcases the group’s incredible range and depth in choral theatre. The repertoire includes a dynamic blend of classical choral works, Jamaican folk songs, and innovative contemporary compositions.
In a release the groups leadership indicated that: “The 65th concert season symbolises not only a tribute to the rich tradition and legacy of The University Singers, but also signifies a jubilant return to live performances after the enforced hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The group is thrilled to welcome audiences back to experience the power of choral music in person.”
The group will be mounting weekend shows at Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts on The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
Gavane Ferguson, president of The University Singers, shared: “This year, more than ever, we feel the importance of music as a unifying force and we are excited to share that with our audience.”
He added that Musical Director Franklin Halliburton has crafted a programme that reflects the group’s commitment to quality presentation bringing stories to life through song, melding narrative with music in a way that transcends language and cultural barriers.
The season runs until July 2, 2023.
