Dhiman, Lopez up to 3rd at Caribbean Junior Golf Champs

Several of Jamaica’s golfers moved up on the leaderboard at the 35th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships at the end of Thursday’s second round.

Aman Dhiman and Rocco Lopez moved to joint third place along with Ethan Hill of Trinidad & Tobago after ending the round on four over par 146 each in the 18 and Under age group. Dhiman and Lopez scored two over 74 par each in the round. They moved from joint fourth place on day one when they scored one over par 72 each. They trail the day one leader Kelvin Hernandez of Puerto Rico (138) by eight shots.

Ryan Lue, the third Jamaica in the group, remained in seventh place with a combined score of nine over par 151 after scoring 75 and 76 for the first and second rounds, respectively.

Captain Emily Mayne also jumped from fourth place to second place in the 18 and Under Girls category. She posted five over par 75 for a two-day total of 12 over par 154. She ended the round 11 shots behind group leader Holly McLean of the Cayman Islands, whose two-day total was 143 (72, 71). Jamaica’s other representative in the group, co-captain Mattea Issa, moved from seventh place to sixth place with her combined score of 21 over par 163. She scored 82 and 81 on the first and second days, respectively.

The youngest player on tour, Alessandra Coe, competing in the 13 & Under category, moved from sixth to fifth place after sending down an improved second day score of 88 to close with a two-day score of 186. Her first day score was 98. Haley Hall of The Bahamas continues to lead the group with her 165 two-day total.

The 13 and Under Boys showed Kemari Morris scoring 85 in the second round and 77 in the first round for an overall score of 162 to occupy fourth place, moving down from third place. Shasa Redlefsen had a positive movement to seventh place from tenth place. His 80 in the second round was eight shots better than his first-round score of 88. His total score was 168 after two rounds. The group has a new leader in Michael Avila of Puerto Rico. His combined total of four over par 148 puts him at 14 shots ahead of Morris.

Samantha Azan, who is the defending champion in the 15 & Under age group, ended the second round in joint sixth place with Anoushka Katri — Jamaica’s only representative from the west. Their two-day score was 31 over par 173 each. Azan’s 91 and first day 82 resulted in her moving from fourth to sixth place, while Katri’s 87 and 86 saw her moving from seventh to sixth place. The new leader in that group is Ava Saavedra of Puerto Rico with a combined total of 158 (80, 78).

The final age group, the 15 & Under Boys, saw both Aaron Ghosh and the only newcomer to the team, Davin Hogan, having a rough day of competition. Ghosh scored 89 in the round along with his 78 in the first round to move from eighth to 13th place with his combined score of 176. Hogan was further back on 174 in 17th place on the back of 91 in the second round and 83 on the first day. Evan Pena of Puerto Rico leads the group with score of 70 (2nd round) and 71 (1st round) for 141 overall.

The golfers will tee off at 8:00 am on Friday’s third and final day of the championship at the North Sound Golf Club in the Cayman Islands.
