Petersfield, Twelfth Street meet for Major League title
LLANDILO, Westmoreland — Petersfield FC and Twelfth Street FC will meet in Sunday’s final of the Westmoreland Football Association/Victor Lowe Major League after beating Tuscany Warriors and Russia FC in their semi-final games earlier this week.
Petersfield FC, who had topped the points tables in the first round, blanked Tuscany Warriors 2-0 in their semi-final game played on Wednesday, a day after Twelfth Street beat Russia FC 4-1 to set up Sunday’s showdown.
Shewayne Barton in the 19th minute and Andre Smith in the 71st minute scored for Petersfield FC days after they had played out a 1-1 draw in their first round game against Tuscany Warriors.
Tuscany Warriors, who had played in the semi-finals of the JFF Tier II play-offs and started the WFA competition as favourites, got off to a flying start, winning their first six games before struggling at the end, winning just once in their next five outings.
On Tuesday, Twelfth Street beat Russia FC for the second time this season after a 3-0 scoreline in the first round.
Jhammaro Hall got Twelfth Street off to a fast start when he scored in the sixth minute before Malik Quarrie made it 2-0 in the 36th minute.
Kenardo made it 3-0 in the 77th minute before Kemar Dawkins pulled one back for Russia FC when he converted a penalty in the 87th minute.
Jhameleek Porter, however, restored Twelfth Street’s three-goal cushion when he scored in the 89th minute.
