Shelly down to compete in Madrid
THREE days after opening her 100m campaign at Spitzen Leichathletik Luzern at Stadion Allmend in Switzerland, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will contest another race today when she lines up in the Meet de Madrid World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event.
The World Championships defending champion in the women’s 100m ran a meet record 10.82 seconds on Thursday, the fourth-fastest time in the world so far, and expectations are for her to run even faster on Saturday.
Shashalee Forbes, who was second at the JAAA national championships and won a 100m race in Slovakia on Thursday, is also down to contest the women’s 100m.
Seven other Jamaicans are also down to compete at the meet, among them Julian Forte who ran a season’s best 9.99 seconds to win in Luzern on Thursday, and Nigel Ellis, both of whom are entered in the men’s 100m.
Tyler Mason, who is having an outstanding season, and Orlando Bennett are set to run the 110m hurdles during which they will face France’s Wilhelm Belocian, while national champion Megan Tapper will contest the 100m hurdles.
After his first European competition, placing second in Luzern, national champion Rajindra Campbell will contest the men’s shot put while triple jumper Kimberly Williams is also down to compete.
