Dunbeholden get Golden Krust boost ahead of Concacaf Club Champs
DUNBEHOLDEN FC received a well-needed boost ahead of their participation in next month’s Concacaf Club Championships after Golden Krust in Atlanta, Georgia, donated $500,000 towards the club’s expenses for the tournament.
Theo Burnett, franchise owner of Golden Krust in Atlanta, said when he heard about the challenges that the club was facing ahead of next month’s tournament he felt compelled to assist the club through his company.
“To be honest, when I heard about the dilemma that they were facing and they were going to travel to Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago with limited resources and they had nowhere else to turn, we just quickly jumped on board and assisted them,” said Burnett.
“It felt good to know that I have supported soccer back home, and, as you know, that is my passion from playing with Clarendon College back in the day,” he said. “This will certainly go a far way in assisting the club, based on the discussion that I have had with them, because the money is going towards travelling and other resources and so this seems like massive for them,” Burnett said.
Roger Simmonds, general manager of the St Catherine-based Dunbeholden, said his club is grateful to Burnett and his company for assistance.
“This donation has come in quite handy for the start of our preparation, and the club really appreciate it and we want to thank him for his assistance,” said Simmonds.
“This is definitely a massive boost for us because there is a lot of costs that are associated with this championships. And yes, we will be getting some funds from Concacaf but the expense to travel and hotel accommodations takes a lot so this will go a far way in helping us,” he added.
Simmonds added that he would love for more persons to come on board and support Dunbeholden because the club is on the rise and he is confident they will put on a great showing at the Concacaf championships.
“We would like for more persons to come on board and support the club because this is a young club that has been in the Jamaica Premier League for five years and last year we were in the final of the competition, which has led to us being in the Club Championship…and so we want to build on the success that we have had so far and take it even further this year,” he said.
Dunbeholden are scheduled to open their account at the Concacaf Championships against Harbour View on August 23 at the National Stadium in Kingston.
