KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Delano Seiveright, on Wednesday met with senior European Union officials and the Spanish ambassador to Jamaica to discuss support for micro and small businesses, post–Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts, and wider investment cooperation.

The talks form part of the ministry’s broader mandate to strengthen assistance to small enterprises and deepen international partnerships in the wake of the hurricane, which caused significant damage across several communities.

During the meeting, the European Union (EU) outlined its emergency response package, which includes €2 million to assist affected Jamaican families in rebuilding, restoring essential services, and regaining their livelihoods. The EU has also allocated an additional €1.25 million to support Red Cross relief operations in both Cuba and Jamaica.

The discussions are expected to guide further collaboration between Jamaica and European partners as recovery and investment initiatives continue.
