Cambridge, Cornwall College to meet in St James U-20 tourney
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Holders Cambridge United and Cornwall College are through to the final of the St James Football Association Under-20 Football Competition after contrasting wins in Friday’s semi-finals at Cornwall College.
Cambridge United, who won the title the last time the competition was staged in 2019, held off Granville United 2-1 in one semi-final, while Alexander Cox scored a double for Cornwall College as they rolled over Spot Valley High 4-0.
The final is set to be played next Friday.
Cambridge United repeated their first round 2-1 win over Granville United with goals from Roahan Gail in the 23rd and Shakkel Brown in the 35th minute.
Demor Peterkin pulled a goal back for Granville United in the 43rd minute, but Cambridge United held on to book their place in the semi-finals.
After playing out a 0-0 draw in the first round, Cornwall College dominated Spot Valley and led 3-0 at half-time with Cox scoring in the 19th and 45th minutes and Rackeem Grizzle in the 39th minute.
Raheem Lee, who was a first-half substitute, added a fourth in the 90th minute as Cornwall College maintained their unbeaten run through the competition.
