Samantha J returns with a bang with ‘Love Me For Me’

Dancehall fusion sensation Samantha J is back.

With new-found drive and energy, and – dare we mention it – a fit bikini-bod, the dancehall stunner who gave birth to her son, Trillion, in 2020, has stepped forward once again to stake her claim as one of the fiercest talents out of Jamaica.

Known for her hit, nostalgic Red Rat-sampler Tight Skirt (2013), the singer is fresh off a brief hiatus and is bombing FM radio into submission with an ice-cream smooth, reggae-flavoured single, Love Me For Me.

Released with sparkling pool-side visuals and gorgeous shots of Samantha J showing off her toned bikini-bod, the video is generating a big buzz online on music sharing and social media platforms.

Since its release, the single has been blowing up the airwaves in Europe, the US and Jamaica.

“Now more than ever before, when you hear my music, you are hearing me. I have the creative control to show the true artiste that I am. Whether it’s through the lyrics, video concepts, and delivery or my live performances, I’m here to share the art and talent that God has blessed me with since I was just a little girl,” Samantha J said.

Currently located in Los Angeles, Samantha revealed Love Me For Me is just one of more new songs in the pipeline.

“I have music that I can’t wait to release. Expect more very soon,” she disclosed.

Samantha J, whose real name is Samantha Gonsalves, is best known for her 2013 smash hit, Tight Skirt, which topped several international charts. She resided in St Ann parish in Jamaica and attended the Heinz Simonitsch School in St James. She always had a passion for music and started writing songs when she was only 12-years old.

She was later discovered by the Si Mi Yah Agency, while attending a model and talent casting in Ocho Rios. Samantha J started to pursue music at 15-years-old, when she recorded her rendition of Red Rat’s classic and it became her career-defining breakthrough hit.

Almost a year after her breakout song, she inked a record deal with US label Columbia Records which ended a few years ago. In 2015, she went on to release another international banger called League of My Own featuring Dej Loaf.

In 2016, Samantha J was featured in the single Light It Up, a song by Norwegian duo Marcus & Martinus. The song charted both in Norway and Sweden, peaking at No 9 on the Norwegian VG-lista chart and number 23 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan chart. The single eventually sold platinum.

Other big hits for the Jamaican singer were Baby Love in 2017 featuring R City (16 million views), Bad Like Yuh in 2015 (4.7 million views), and her 2017 release Rockets (2.1 million). She has a collaboration with Gyptian called Picture that did well internationally, racking up over 1.5 million views.

Her 2019 collaboration with Shenseea and Azaryah titled Show Off, which was produced by Jonny Blaze x Stadic, stands at 1.7 million views, and Big Bad Benz in 2022 (577,000).

She is signed to US-based indie label, Anka Music Group.
