Samantha Hall, Fedrick Dacres get podium finishes at LA Throws Cup
National champion Samantha Hall and former champion Fedrick Dacres both had podium finishes in their respective discus throw competitions at Saturday’s LA Throws Cup competition, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Bronze meet held at South Bay Athletic Club, Wilmington, California.
Hall, who won her fifth national title last weekend at the JAAA National Championships at the National Stadium, won the women’s event with a best mark of 65.12m while Dacres was second in the men’s event with a season’s best 66.17m, his best throw in over a year.
Hall, who fouled her first throw, took over the lead in the third round to finish ahead of Americans Laulauga Tausaga-Collins, who was second with 63.47m, and Rachel Dincoff, who finished third with 61.77m.
Dacres got off to a good start, getting his best distance in the first round and exceeding his previous season’s best 63.55m on three more occasions.
Racquil Broderick was fifth with 62.73m and Shamar Reid was seventh with 58.51m.
American Sam Mattis won with 68.19m, with his compatriot Brian Williams third with 65.80.
