The St James Under-15 team put on a memorable show at Jarrett Park on Monday to comprehensively beat many-time national champions St Elizabeth and storm into the quarter-finals of the Kingston Wharves cricket competition for the first time.
Female bowler Samoya Samuels was one of the stars behind the victory on Monday, taking a hat-trick when she nabbed the last three St Elizabeth wickets.
Earlier, St James won the toss and batted but could only muster 61 all out, which included 20 extras.
Ryan Parris made 17 runs, while Sanjany Samuels added 14.
St Elizabeth’s in-form bowler Eckoney Robinson bagged 5-15, while Jayden Shaw got two for seven in nine overs.
When they batted St Elizabeth were no match for the St James bowlers and were skittled out for 25.
Samuels, bowling spin, had a good day with the ball, taking the final three wickets in as many balls.
Jaden Williams and Desron Dunn also got three wickets.
Cecil Fletcher, the St James Cricket Association president, was very pleased with his team’s performance and he said he was looking forward to the quarter-final stage.
Richard Walters, the manager of the St Elizabeth team, said that it was not the best year for the team, which won only two of the four matches in the preliminary round. He said he was not overly worried though and expressed confidence the team will rise again.
