#WorldChamps2023: McLoed books spot, Young and Pryce out of 400m final
Jamaica’s Candice McLoed advanced to the final of the women’s 400m at the World Athletics Championships at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary on Monday.
McLoed ran 50.62 for fourth in semi-final one, advancing as a non-automatic qualifier. Her race was won by Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic in 49.54 while Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke finished second in 49.87.
National champion Nickisha Pryce ran a brave race but had to settle fifth in 51.24. Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands won in 49.87 and Talitha Diggs of America finished second in 50.86.
Meanwhile, Young recorded a time of 51.40 for sixth in semi-final three. It was Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek who won 49.50 while Barbados’ Sada Williams set a new national record of 49.58 to qualify.
Belgium’s Cynthia Bolingo, who ran a national record of 49.96, is the event’s other non-automatic qualifier.
The final of the women’s 400m will take place on Wednesday at 2:35 pm Jamaica time.
