KINGSTON, Jamaica — He last graced a stage in Jamaica back in 2010, but when Chris Brown took to the stage at the National Stadium on Sunday night as the headline act for a star-studded concert, it was as if no time had passed.

There was as much excitement to see the entertainer deliver a jaw-dropping performance on Sunday as there was more than a decade ago when he was still rising in the industry.

To say ‘Breezy’ delivered would be an utter understatement, as the American, who many describe as the Prince of RnB, gave patrons more than their money’s worth. From the dance moves to the vocals, and from the theatrics to the immaculate stage lighting, the concert represented the highest international standards.

The artiste’s set was so captivating that patrons, initially disappointed from being kept away from the front of the stage for his entrance, quickly forgot their upset feelings. They were completely mesmerized by each song he performed

Showcasing his meteoric rise in the business, Chris Brown chronologically delivered songs from the year he got his big break in the industry to present-day hits. From classics like Run It and Gimme Dat, to songs like Under the Influence, Call Me Everyday and his most recent collaboration, How We Roll with Ciara. The performance was like a scene from a movie.

A master at his craft, Chris Brown worked the stage from every possible angle, making patrons as far away as the bleachers feel as if they were front and centre. Professing that he felt “now was the right time” to make his grand return to Jamaica, Brown thanked his Jamaican fanbase for “rocking” with him over the years as he vowed not to take that long before making another appearance.

Having been on the island since last Tuesday, Brown had the ladies eating out of the palm of his hand as he led sing-alongs on tracks such as ‘Take You Down’ and ‘Don’t Judge Me.’ Taking a moment to honor Jamaican culture, the entertainer revealed that two of his talented dancers are Jamaicans. The duo then illuminated the National Stadium with an impromptu choreography to Aidonia’s hit single, ‘Yeah Yeah.’ The audience even had the chance to select the tracks for a special segment, choosing favorites like ‘No Air,’ ‘New Flames,’ and ‘Say Goodbye.’

“Mi glad mi come out come see dis,” Toni-Ann, a patron who travelled from Ocho Rios in St Ann told OBSERVER ONLINE after the show.

Her friend, Shamara, said if she had not attended the concert, she would have been overcome with sadness.

“You just had to be here. How could I miss this?! The man is a performer in every sense of the word. He gave us everything tonight and I can’t complain. It was worth every penny. Chris, you owe Jamaica nothing.”

While Chris Brown was undoubtedly who the people came out for, patrons got so much more, including enviable performances from the likes of Sean Kingston, Ding Dong, Aidonia, Teejay and Gramps Morgan. There were also performances from Davo, Byron Messia, Moyann, Kemar Highcon, D’Yani and Bayka. There were also special surprise sets from Tommy Lee Sparta, Valiant and Safaree.
