‘Credit must be given to the trainer who had him before’ — trainer Alford Brown

‘Credit must be given to the trainer who had him before’ — trainer Alford Brown

Following Blue Vinyl‘s remarkable success in the $1.25-million Kenneth Mattis OD Memorial Trophy on Sunday, September 10, 2023, trainer Alford Brown commended prior trainer Patrick Lynch for doing an outstanding job in keeping the chestnut in tip-top shape.

Blue Vinyl coming off a nearly three-month break easily defeated rivals without breaking a sweat in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m). Blue Vinyl, a four-year-old chestnut colt, was never seriously challenged during the race won 3 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:57.0 (27.0 x 52.0 x 1:16.4 x 1:42.2).

“It is a good win and it was well appreciated,” Brown told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.

“All credit must be given to the trainer who had him before because he did a spectacular job with this horse. All I did was just maintained him and it was obvious assumption that the trainer was preparing the horse for this race. So he was doing fantastic and we just race and this was the result,” Brown added.

Javaniel Patterson broke Blue Vinyl cleanly at the start in second place and chased Inspired Miracle (Shane Richardson) through the clubhouse turn and onto the main track. In an attempt to steal a march, Inspired Miracle built up seven lengths on Blue Vinyl and company down the backstretch.

Stomp The Rhythm (Shamaree Muir) pushed to the front as the half-mile (800m) turn approached but his lead was cut short when Blue Vinyl caught up to him and continued to widen his lead with each stride. Blue Vinyl went on to beat Sunset Silhoutte (Reyan Lewis) and Get A Pepsi (Dane Dawkins).

Patterson was also pleased with the effort from Blue Vinyl.

“As I had said this earlier in the year, this horse is a good horse and he will be a top contender in the big races to come up. I was very easy on Blue Vinyl and when I asked him at the half and he responded very well. I didn’t have to do very much. Furlong and a half I rolled him over and I saw that I had the race covered so I easy up and that’s it,” said Patterson.
