Perfect records on the line in d’Cup
Two games featuring teams with perfect win records going up against each other will be the highlight of Tuesday’s round of matches as the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition continues, weather permitting.
Champions Clarendon College and Edwin Allen are down to meet in a Zone H game and Belair High and Manchester High in Zone F will put their perfect win records on the line if the games are allowed to go ahead.
Additionally, three more schools with perfect win records, Annotto Bay High, Glenmuir High, and Charlemont High, will also hope to extend their winning records.
Twenty-three games are down to be played, if weather permits, as a number of games have been affected by heavy rains, waterlogged fields, and lightning.
St James High came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Irwin High in their rescheduled Zone A game played at Jarrett Park on Monday.
Kenroy Morant gave Irwin high the lead in the 10th minute before Ramoy Brown, a 46th-minute substitute, equalised in the 50th minute.
Today, Clarendon College and Edwin Allen will be hoping to avoid a second-straight postponement as their games on Saturday were not played, and will hope to have an edge.
Both are on nine points from three wins each and statistically there is little between the teams. Clarendon College has scored 17 goals and yet to concede while Edwin Allen has scored 16 and conceded one.
Edwin Allen had held Clarendon College to a 1-1 draw at home last year and will hope to go one step further today but will face their toughest task so far this season.
Manchester High have won four games, one more than Belair High, and both have had things easy so far but will be tested today.
Manchester High are coming off an 8-0 win over Cross Keys on Saturday as Belair High’s game against May Day High was postponed due to a waterlogged field.
Zone I leaders Annotto Bay High will be going after a fifth-straight win when they take on second place Tacky High who earned four points from their two games last year.
Tacky High have scored 24 goals compared to Annotto Bay High’s 18, both from four games played.
Glenmuir High who leads Zone L with nine points from three wins, travels to take on second placed Denbigh High but won both games last year and will hope to continue on their winning ways today.
In another match, leaders Knox College and Bellefield High, tied on nine points each at the top of Zone G, will meet for the first time in three years.
