RACING NEWS FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2023

LADY KARMA UPSETS AT 10-1 AFTER EQUIPMENT CHANGE

Lady Karma, running with the visor off and with the tongue-tie and cheek pieces on, upset rivals at odds of 10-1 in a native-bred three-year-old fillies only call travelling 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).

With jockey Anthony Allen in the saddle for trainer Fitznahum Williams, Lady Karma sat in second place behind the speedy Lady Ramdularie (Tevin Foster). Going into the half-mile (800m) turn, Allen relaxed Lady Karma a bit and allowed Crucial Alexxya (Oneil Mullings) and Lambo Girl (Ramon Nepare) to go by.

Lady Karma held her position well against the inside rails and staged her run approaching the distance, slipping into second position entering the lane. In deep stretch, Lady Karma found extra and powered her way to by 2 ¾ lengths in a time of 1:08.3 (23.4 x 47.3).

Lady Ramdularie finished in second place, giving owner Bombay Stud Farm a one-two finish. Lambo Girl was third.

Lady Karma (Anthony Allen) is being led to the winners’ enclosure by groom Arthur Spencer.

THUNDERSTRIKE GOES ONE BETTER

Seven-year-old chestnut mare Thunderstrike, after finishing second behind Ali at the races on August 19, made no mistake as the Gary Crawford trainee proved too strong for rivals going 7 furlongs (1,400m).

Thunderstrike‘s victory came in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) race that also included six-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) and native-bred five-year-olds (maidens).

Thunderstrike was held in third place by jockey Bebeto Harvey down the backstretch. Out On A Limb (Oshadane Robinson) led the field ahead of Biblical Legend. Thunderstrike continued to trek close to the leaders until Harvey sent the chestnut mare in pursuit of Biblical Legend approaching the distance.

Hugging the inside rails and cutting the turn coming into the lane, Thunderstrike produced a strong run in deep stretch to easily earn victory by 3 ¾ lengths. Biblical Legend finished second and Dancing With A Cat came home in third place. The final time for the event was 1:30.0 (24.0 x 47.4 x 1:14.1).

MR SENATOR REGAINS HIS SEAT

The Anthony Nunes-conditioned Mr Senator, after being disqualified from first place in his second to last start, got things right when easily brushing aside the competition at a mile (1,600m).

Ridden by Jawara Steadman, Mr Senator was held in third place at the start of the race and chased Miss Lynton (Dane Dawkins) and Captain Philip (Oshane Nugent) leaving the intersection at the 7-furlong marker.

Mr Senator continued to race behind the pace down the backstretch until Steadman asked him to go and the three-year-old roan colt attacked Miss Lynton navigating the half-mile turn.

Mr Senator drew alongside Miss Lynton coming into the lane before pulling off in deep stretch to win the race by 9 ¾ lengths. Home Alone (Devon A Thomas) finished in second place, while Captain Philip ended third in a final time of 1:42.0 (24.3 x 47.3 x 1:14.1).

TWO-IN-A-ROW FOR HOIST THE MAST – CLAIMED

Hoist The Mast shot to the front at the start of the race and held the lead ahead of Heiroffire (Roger Hewitt), Donalmighty (Reyan Lewis), and GT Boy (Phillip Parchment). The Anthony Nunes trainee then upped the tempo ahead of Donalmighty going into the half-mile turn and continued to show the way entering the drive.

Jockey Tevin Foster rolled over the five-year-old chestnut mare to win by 1 ¾ lengths. GT Boy finished second and Another Bullet (Anthony Allen) came home in second place. The final time was 1:14.3 (23.0 x 47.0).

SIX CLAIMS

In the first race, Dennis Pryce claimed Thunderstrike for himself from Gary Crawford; Linton Calder claimed Dancing With A Cat for owner Wilfred Nicholas from Carl Anderson; Steven Todd claimed Biblical Legend for owner Sandra Solomon from Delroy Wisdom; and Andre Adams claimed Party Princess for himself from Joseph Thomas. All claims in the fifth were made at $250,000 each.

Phillip Elliott claimed G T Boy for owner Andrew Elliott from Marvin Campbell for $750,000; and Oral Hayden claimed Hoist The Mast for himself from Anthony Nunes, also for $750,000 from the fifth race.
