Clarendon, Glenmuir seek fifth-straight d’Cup win
Champions Clarendon College and former holders Glenmuir High will be hunting their fifth-straight win in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Wata daCosta Cup when the competition continues with 13 games this afternoon.
The Lenworth Hyde-coached Clarendon College are set to play away to Lennon High, while Glenmuir High are to host Old Harbour High. Clarendon and Glenmuir are both seeking sweeps after winning the first-round games against those opponents.
Dinthill Technical, set to play away to McGrath High, are to return to action for the first time since four players were struck by lightning in a game against Charlemont High.
Clarendon College had beaten Lennon High 5-0 in their opening game of the season, all five goals coming in the first half of the game that was played at the National Stadium.
Since then the champions have scored 15 goals in three more games and will be looking to extend their winning run.
Glenmuir High, who won the Ben Francis KO last season, have also cruised in their zone, scoring 27 goals in their four games. They had beaten Old Harbour High 4-0 the first time they met this season.
Dinthill Technical had won their first two games before the incident at Charlemont High on September 19. They face McGrath High, who are on six points from three games, and are coming off a 10-0 win over Ewarton High.
Charlemont High are also on six points and will host Ewarton High, losers of all four games played so far. They have conceded 21 goals in the process.
There will also be two games featuring the top two teams in their respective zones.
Manning’s School, leaders in Zone D with 10 points, host second-placed Black River High, who are on seven points, in Savanna-la-Mar. The teams had played out a 1-1 result in the first round.
Bellefield High, leaders in Zone G, with 12 points from five games, will seek to avenge their first-round loss to second-placed Mile Gully, who are three points behind with a game in hand.
Both teams go into the game on a three-game win streak. A win for Mile Gully would see them take over the lead on goal difference.
On Thursday, Manchester High racked up win number five in a row after they ended Belair High’s perfect win record with a 4-1 victory as the teams played the final 30 minutes of their game that started on Wednesday but was interrupted by bad weather.
It was the first goal Manchester High were conceding this season as they took their tally of goals to 31.
May Day High failed to show up for the continuation of their game against deCarteret College, who led 3-0 when the game was called off on Wednesday.
Mt St Joseph Catholic won their second game of the season, beating Cross Keys High 3-0 with Jhabahry Brown, Kimaniei Johnson, and Ramon McDonald getting on the score sheet.
Paul Bogle High beat Yallahs High School 3-0 in their Zone K game to move to within three points of leaders Morant Bay High.
