Defending champions Clarendon College edged closer to qualifying for the second round of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association daCosta Cup football competition after extending their win streak to five-straight games with a 5-0 drubbing of Lennon High in the Zone H return game on Friday.

Lenworth Hyde-coached Clarendon College became the fourth school to win five-straight matches, joining former champions Rusea’s High as well as Cedric Titus and Manchester High.

Another former winner, Dinthill Technical, won their third-straight game after edging McGrath High 2-1 to take over the lead in Zone J, but there were losses for Charlemont High and Glenmuir High.

Another 17 games are scheduled to be played on Saturday, as the return legs start in most zones.

Morant Bay High were the first school to secure their place from Zone K after Paul Bogle High beat Yallahs High 3-0 on Wednesday. The result ensured Morant Bay cannot finish lower than second in the zone.

Morant Bay are on 12 points, only a point away from winning the zone for the first time since 2014.

On Saturday, Cedric Titus will put their five-game win streak on the line when they travel to York Castle in a top-of-Zone C clash.

York Castle are on 10 points from their five games, same as Brown’s Town, who have played a game fewer and will host last-placed Discovery Bay High.

Munro College and BB Coke, who are separated by a point, will meet in a crucial Zone E game as they seek to stay in touch with leaders St Elizabeth Technical, who are at home against Roger Clarke High.

In Mocho on Friday, Justin Hayles scored twice for Clarendon College, who repeated their 5-0 first-round win over Lennon High. Christopher Hull, Kaheim Dixon, and Devontie Hodges got the other goals.

Dinthill Technical improved to nine points after beating McGrath High 2-1 to take over the lead in the zone. Ewarton High scored their first win with a surprise 1-0 result against Charlemont High, who had won their first two games.

Glenmuir High’s winning streak ended at four games after they were beaten 1-2 by Old Harbour High, who were getting their first win of the season. Old Harbour’s goals came from Ackeem Lewis and Rudolph Smith, while Deandre Johnson scored for Glenmuir.
