Reggae Boyz beat Grenada 4-1 in Nations League
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica saw off Grenada 4-1 in their Group A group stage game in the CONCACAF Nations League at the Kirani James stadium, St George’s, Grenada on Thursday to extend their lead in the points tables.
Two goals late in the second half from Demarai Gray and captain for the night Bobby Reid, killed off any hopes the hosts might have had as Jamaica held on to a 2-1 lead late.
The Reggae Boyz lead the points tables with seven points from two wins and a draw, three more than Cuba who have played a game less with Honduras and Haiti both on three points, Suriname two points and Grenada one.
Midfielder Kevon Lambert gave the Jamaicans the lead after 12 minutes when he poked home a rebound after Grenada’s goalkeeper Jason Belfon did well to keep out a shot from a corner.
Shamar Nicholson doubled the advantage 10 minutes later with a well taken goal before Trevon Williams scored for Grenada in the 30th minute, their second goal of the Nations League.
Jamaica had several chances to add to their lead but Belfon came up large for his team, until the 74th minute when Gray finished off a quick counter, dribbling down the left side, cutting in and firing low into the far corner of the goal.
Reid added a fourth in the 87th minute, almost a carbon copy of Gray’s goal to kill the game off as a contest.
